We are the London Chapter of the Information Systems Audit and Control
Association (ISACA), an international body which has been in existence
since 1969. Our own Chapter, the first in the UK, was established in
1981 and there are now other chapters in Birmingham and Manchester.
We have over 800 members who come from a
wide cross-section of business including the accountancy
and information systems professions, central and local
government, the banking, manufacturing and service
sectors and academia. (Chapter
Statistics)
Anyone with an interest in the control of information
systems is welcome to join. The wide interests of the
group are reflected in its objectives which include:

- developing auditing and control techniques to reflect
changes in technology, legislation and society
- promoting awareness and competence in information
systems control
- promoting the efficient, effective and economical use of
audit and control in the information systems environment
- educating all levels of management in control
techniques.

As a member you will obtain a number of outstanding benefits including:
- a free quarterly journal which keeps you in touch with
advances in information systems audit, control and
security techniques
- regular meetings which are addressed by information
systems audit, control and security professionals
- practical one-day workshops
- a number of special interest groups

information systems audit, control and security spheres

Published quarterly, our international award winning journal Datawatch,
is our main communication arm with our members. Each edition contains a
mixture of academic articles which are tempered with those prepared by
practitioners who are, in many cases, our own members. If you want to
keep up to date on information systems control and audit matters, then Datawatch
is a must.
We have a strong editorial team to ensure the content is of a very high quality
and sufficiently varied to provide something for everyone; no matter what your
expertise, or job title. If you are unable to make one of our meetings, then you
will often find a report on the subject in a subsequent edition of Datawatch.
Remember, Datawatch is supplied free to members.

We hold many free late afternoon meetings throughout the year at a
central London location. The subjects covered are diverse to reflect the
different interests of the membership, but with a strong emphasis on
control, audit and security matters. Our speakers are usually
information systems and audit professionals and you have the opportunity
to contribute if you so wish. Full details of the current season's
meetings can be found on the events page.

Our one-day workshops are usually `hands on' events where we examine a
technical subject in depth. These provide some of the best value
training in town.

If you have a particular interest, then it is likely to be reflected by
one of our SIGs. They hold their own programme of events within the
overall chapter programme.

We regularly negotiate valuable concessionary registration fees for
national and international conferences and discounts on the subscription
price of audit and security magazines. These discounts easily exceed
your annual membership fee.

We have connections with 136 chapters in 58 countries. Our links with
Europe are particularly strong and we actively participate in the
governance of the European region, where one of our past presidents is
now the Regional Vice President. We are also actively encouraging and
helping with the formation of new chapters in the emerging Eastern
European countries.

Telephone our chapter administrator, Christine Lyon, on +44 (0)1707
665014 or e-mail

Datawatch and our annual programme card.

We welcome anyone with an interest in the control,
audit and security of information systems. You do not
have to be an auditor to become a member. In fact,
many of our members are from the mainstream IS
profession without the word audit in their job title. If
you are involved in system development, system security,
quality assurance, or the running of a computer
installation you will benefit from greater involvement
in control issues. For Student Membership, please refer details here.

ISACA, which was founded in 1969 as the EDP Auditors Association, is an
association of professionals involved in information systems audit,
control, quality assurance and security.
The association has a global membership of more
than 15,000, approximately 50% in the U.S. with the
remainder spread across Asia, Australia, Canada,
Europe, Africa, South and Central America.
Through its world-wide leadership ISACA enhances
recognition of the IS audit and control profession
through the advancement of standards and practices,
education and certification. It sponsors five global
conferences, holds education series jointly with chapters,
publishes the bimonthly "IS Audit and Control
Journal" and "Global Communique", which are free to
members, and offers a bookstore of current technical
publications where members are entitled to a
discounted rate.
The international, not-for-profit, ISACA Foundation promotes
research that results in the development of
products useful to IS audit and control professionals
and seeks to inform information technology users
about the critical role IS controls play in their
organisations.

The internationally recognised Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA)
qualification is currently held by over 9,000 professionals world wide,
with over 600 in the UK. You can take the examination in London,
Birmingham, Manchester or Edinburgh.
The London Chapter runs special training sessions,
for which a small charge is made, to help you achieve
success.
