New! 3/6/01  Project and Security Awareness SIG Proposals  New! 3/6/01

The objective of a SIG is to advance member's knowledge regarding a specific area of interest.

The Chapter encourages the formation of SIGs and if you have any thoughts in this direction please contact the SIG Co-ordinator:
John Hunter  jhunter#hlbdc.com

The scope of the SIG will be determined by the subject and members will be asked to submit topics for discussion. Subjects will be selected following the identification of risk & impact and additionally areas were significant developments are expected in the near future. As an example, the Network SIG meet five times per annum with presenters generally being from specialist companies, although additionally group members also gave presentations. Other SIGs have been based on an interactive group discussion basis.

The main deliverable is to contribute to member's development, this will be achieved by the following means: -

  • Presentations on subjects suggested by members.
  • Exchange of ideas following presentations and seeking advice & information from group members at other times.
  • Articles in Datawatch.
  • Production of audit guidelines / checklists.
  • Publish presentations on Chapter web site.

The formation of a new SIGs is always carefully considered and a recent member suggestion for a SAP R3 SIG was not successful because of the number of quality groups already in existence outside the Chapter. Of course a SIG does not run itself and at a minimum a chairman is required for all the associated organization and administration. The main objectives of a SIG Chairman  are: -

  • act as focus for their subject;
  • organize meetings;
  • organize accommodation;
  • prepare plan/timetable for stated deliverables;
  • chair each meeting;
  • appoint roles within their SIG

Past SIG Meetings
Risk

The Risk SIG is in a dormant state, but if there is enough interest the group will re-invoke. However, there needs to be a quorum of at least twelve interested members for it to be viable.

Networks

All SIGs have a finite life and the Network SIG ceased in February 2000. The chairman of the group was Bill Hawkins. bill.hawkins#corpoflondon.gov.uk
