- following suggestion from Kamal - added "how to join ISACA (and how to contact ISACA) buttons to home page
- added past presidents page (liked from Board) - can someone check and let me know if this is accurate and who else to add and badger for a photo  (note - would be nice to also have a page showing London members who represent International board and committees ie. Archie, Lynne, Paul, Karen, Derek, Kamal - etc - I am sure there are more

 2. Jobs Page

Addded two job ads in Jan
- 13/1  Computer Recruitment Services - contact Parsh Batra
- 25/1  Executive Connections - contact Eileen McLean

(have just passed invoice details onto Nancy)

3.  Enquiries

Responded to following enquiries:

Re job ads
- 31/1 Veronique Tovee - Imnet International

Re conference flyers
- 31/1 Amanda Sangster - HSA Events (same place as Kate Mars who had contacted Karen re the Critical Infrastructure conf)., Amanda's is a Investigating Crime and Computer Fraud Conf - I have asked her to contact Nancy re mailshots flyers (they will give the normal 10 discount to ISACA members).

On the issue of advertising conference details, I know Archie expressed a concern at the away day that putting conf details on the website may take revenue away from our normal flyer type income.  What about working on the basis that we'll only put up conf details (except for ISACA and those where we have reciprocal arrangements such as BCS, ICAE&W & IIA?) if these organisations use (and pay for) our flyer/inserts service as well.  We can even temp them by giving them their own dedicated page, for example if HSA use the flyer/insert service regularly, we can give them a page linked from the conference page, with their logo and schedule of events.  There may be other event organisers out there that may be interested.  Does anyone have any problem with this in principle? Perhaps details can be worked out by Publications/Advertising sub committee.

4.  Events

Still awaiting slides from Angus Wright's presentation on 24 Jan.

5.  Problems getting mail through to Nancy on nancy@isaca.org

Some mails I sent Nancy earlier this month bounced.  I checked with Verio (ours and Northern/Central chapter web host) and they thought there had been some problems between themselves and AOL (nancy@isaca.org is set up to forward to nancy@isaca.org.uk <nancy@isaca.org.uk - and I have checked the isaca.org.uk site to ensure the setting is still the same).  I know Kamal had similar problems and John has just this evening alerted me to the fact that it has not gone away.  So will check again with Verio in the morning.

6.  Web hosting service @ Verio comes up for renewal 23 Feb.

I have been investigating switching to Supanames http://www.supanames.co.uk which has superb facilities and hosting control panel, ie makes my job easier.  Also their prices are very reasonable, £48.75 (incl VAT for .org name and unlimited space) - we pay £232 at Verio.  I have been using Supanames for about 18 months now for some other sites and never had any reliability or service issues.

Only issue is they don't currently allow discussion boards (other than their own which is very basic) - but they are changing this mid Feb.

So I'll be seeking approval from the Board to switch from Verio to Supanames, provided we can sort out the discussion board issue (altho given its use - it may not be a show stopper and perhaps an opportunity to re evaluate)

8 January  2002

- I have finally managed to get  www.isaca.org.uk updated with a new look
and feel for UK and Ireland Chapter links and details
- BS7799 put onto site for comment

November 2001

Very little to report for November

1.  Discussions ongoing with the Northern Chapter - Ray Butler & Peter McCreadie (Northern owns the isaca.org.uk site) to update the main entry page to the UK and Ireland.  I have updated the proposed site (see http://internetworking4u.co.uk/isacauk/) adding holding pages for Scotland (with contact details) and for Ireland (does anyone have contact details for Ireland?)

2.  Added awayday June 2001 minutes to the board workspace.

3.  Job adds

- have just asked Nancy to invoice Alderbridge £50 for ad that went up in Nov

- have asked Barclay Simpson whether they wish to continue their ads - @ £50 a piece as their trial period is now over.

4.  Minutes for the last meeting showed that there was no report from the Web for Oct.  Perhaps it was missed.

October 2001

1.  Website - design

Substantially reworked during Oct to give it a more "ISACA Corporate" and consistent look and feel.  Also added "restricted area", currently used for the board workspace, but the concept can be used in future if we wish to have a area restricted to members. Also added chapter stats.

2.  Content

2.1.  Board workspace http://www.isaca-london.org/private/4committee.htm

Updated for schedules, website stats (interesting growth in hits - and I can see visitors coming in from Japan, Germany, Canada, US, Korea, Aus to name a few), events checklist and manual (see below).  Please send me any other schedules or info you wish to share, for example Datawatch article deadlines and publishing schedules would be useful.

Should we also be putting up the away day minutes and board minutes?

As a reminder, logon details to get in (from the restricted area link right at the bottom of pages) are: userid london password 2001.  If anyone has any strong feelings or concerns over security, please lets discuss.  Currently I am using "basic authentication" and personally I don't see any major issue with this (ISACA HQ use this and they have personal info stored which we don't - other than the board's contact details).  And after all the info in the Board Workspace is not that sensitive and there are many other better pickings if anone wanted to hack sites.  And anyway people are quite happy emailing the Board related stuff around unencrypted despite being passed through (and STORED!) on many mail servers with ISPs with less than good security.

2.2. Chapter Manual

Manual is now available online, with separate pages for each area.   Some of the contact details are clearly out of date.  Please send me any updates and wherever possible, use links to other sites where the info is already available rather than individual's names as it make keeping it up to date easier.

2.3.  Job ads

@ 3/11 there are three 7 ads on the site, 2 paying and five "freebies" for Barclay Simpson.  I will contact BS to inform them that their "free" period is coming to an end, and also get feedback on level of interest to date.

Summary of enquiries to date are:

* 7/9 MRK Consulting (Micael Ketley)
13/9 FSA (Fagun Shah)
18/9 Barclay Simpson (Ian Coyle)
2/10 HCA (Helen Jones)
15/10 Acumin (Shirish Mistry)
* 23/10 Harvey Nash (Victoria Pearson)
31/10 Alderbridge Network Recruitment (Lynda Bate)

* = requested Nancy to invoice £50 each

Some have also asked about Datawatch/Mailshot - which I have passed on.

3.  Other

3.1  Main UK ISACA site

I am in contact with the Webmasters from the Northern and Central chapters to ask them to change the main entry page the UK sites (the isaca.org.uk domain name is owned by the Northern/Central chapters) - here is an mockup/example of what I am proposing
http://internetworking4u.co.uk/isacauk/- so I am asking them to use this on the www.isaca.org.uk site.

3.2  Discussion Board

As a plea, can I ask that the members of the Board support the discussion forum on the site, either by sharing information (links, interesting articles etc) with others or posing some questions that could lead to some discussion (and again sharing of knowledge).  It should not take up too much of your time and can potentially help in driving visitors to the site and giving it a wider appeal.

3.3  IT Security News Ticker

Some of you may have noticed that the news ticker on the home page disappeared recently.  Unfortunately, due to repeated hacks and defacements to the Security News Portal, the news ticker service was pulled by the sponsors on 24/10.  A great shame as it was a very useful  (and free!) and widely used service.  I still have the scroll running on my own site here
http://www.internetworking4u.co.uk/resources.htm in the hope that it will return.  In the meantime I am researching other news tickers.

Finally you may be interested to know that the site now takes up 23MB and has some 704 files (including graphics).  So keep the content coming.

2 October 2001

JOB ADVERTS ON THE ISACA LONDON CHAPTER WEBSITE

Summary

  • Pilot kicked off in Sept 2001 - in response to an enquiry from MRK Consulting.
  • Following email exchanges and discussion of the main issues, a decision was taken by the Publications Committee to go ahead on a pilot basis - for ratification at the October Board meeting
  • First ad went live 12 Sept 2001

Main areas discussed

Rate to charge

  • From research of other sites (mainly in US and Canada) and MRK, decided to start with an introductory price of £50 per ad per quarter.
  • Companies supporting Datawatch to be given free ads.
  • Agreed to review in a few months, say Jan 2002, to see what interest has been raised and how much agencies are prepared to pay.

Barclay Simpson relationship

  • Turned out to be a non issue as BS was very interested to try this channel.

Associating ISACA with the advertisers

  • Similar position as taking ads for Datawatch.
  • Updated the disclaimer and privacy page on the web.
  • Adverts placed on plain white background and all contact is back to advertisers.

Current position

  • One ad from MRK Consulting (AB to advise Nancy to invoice MRK)
  • Five ads from Barclay Simpson (free)
  • Howell Chorley Associates - been in contact and expecting two ads shortly
  • FSA - initial enquiry about web and Datawatch, to which Nancy and I responded but have had no feedback to date.

Going forward

  • Currently low key, ie. no explicit notification to members and no prospecting for advertisers.
  • Too early to project income flow, but not expected to be significant (ie. don't budget for)
  • Do not expect any adverse effect on other income flows.
  • Review in January 2002.
