CISA Exam 2002

International had 11 firm bookings for the 2002 CISA Exam prior to Christmas. I have been advised by International that this is the usual trend. Historically bookings improve during February with a large influx during April.

CISA Review Course

Thank you to Nancy for preparing and distributing the advertising material. Thanks to Allan for promoting the review course on the website. Further publicity will appear in the January mailshot and the next Datawatch.

Bookings for the review course, as of last week, are: 1 firm with cheque and 5 prospective.

CISA Marketing Plan

The International matched funding award (upto $750 local spend - matched by international) was based upon a marketing plan submitted last October - the content was previously summarised as:

1. Ensure the CISA brand appears in all correspondence
2. Ensure that all publications which show individuals names also show, where earned, the CISA designation.
3. Follow-up CISA enquires with a phone call
4. Commission an academically reached article
5. Ensure strong links between the London Chapter website and Internationals
6. Summaries bulletin board inquiries and forward to relevant Board member for response
7. Ensure a stand is present at relevant conferences

My plan for the implementation/continuation of the above are:

1. Review correspondence and stationery templates - I'll liaise with Nancy.
2. Simply a request to everyone to use the CISA suffix whenever it's appropriate to do so.
3. Nancy continuously responds to ISACA and CISA related enquires. Where costs are incurred for CISA please remember to retain receipted costs for matched funding purposes.
4. I'll liaise with John Mitchell for a suitable contact within academic relations.
5. Allan continues to build and maintain an excellent website. Where costs are incurred for CISA please remember to retain receipted costs for matched funding purposes.
6. Allan's suggestion of an automated notification system is a tidy solution.  If this is an option that can be progressed then please remember to retain receipted costs for matched funding purposes.
7. We usually have a stand at Compsec - if we plan to do so this year then this funding will help to ensure our stand remains visually acceptable. Personally I have not seen the stand and I would welcome feedback from previous users as to it's suitability. Allan has previously made a number of good suggestions including joint breakfast talks with recruitment agencies. I do not work in London and would, therefore, welcome assistance with the implementation.

CISA REVIEW WORKSHOP REPORT

Thank you for supporting the workshop proposal tabled at the January meeting.

  • The booking form has been revised and agreed – thank you John
  • All CISA candidates will receive a workshop flyer and booking form during early February - thank you Nancy.
  • I am now in receipt of the ISACA 2001 CISA review course – thank you Archie and John. This will form the basis of the workshop I am currently reviewing the content and planning the delivery of key messages.
  • Wokefield are continuing to hold back rooms for Saturday night. However, we are on a waiting list for rooms on Friday evening. This may be touch and go for attendees planning a Friday night session – My suggestion is that priority is given to those who only require overnight accommodation for Saturday. I suspect we will be in a stronger position with Wokefield once they receive firm bookings.
  • The Chapter has purchased a set of current CISA review materials from ISACA – These will be on display on the day and may lead to additional sales for ISACA.
  • Nancy has kindly agreed to process the booking forms.

Outstanding issues to address

  • Plan the delivery of the workshop
  • Compile a timetable for the weekend
  • Confirm the Wokefield training room and equipment provision
  • Supply work shop delegates with travel information
  • Remember the clocks change to BST

CISA report – Wednesday 6 September 2000

2000 Examination

Another year of record figures with 6,548 (1999: 5,086) candidates registering for the examination, however the overall pass rate has fallen from 54% in 1999 to just 52% in 2000.

At the London examination centre, a total of 153 candidates registered for the examination, and 118 were successful, i.e. a pass rate of 77.1%. This shows an improving trend over 1999 (75.5%), and is interesting because it bucks the declining global trend.

I have not been provided with the total number of London Chapter members who registered for this year’s examination, however a total of 125 members were successful, 109 of whom sat in London, and a further 16 in other centres.

Revision Course

The overall pass rate for candidates who attended the revision course was 75% (12 out of 16 who sat the examination). Included in this number is one candidate, Mark Hallam, who achieved the third highest score of candidates at the London centre, so congratulation to Archie and his team for doing such an effective job.

Notification of results

I have been in correspondence with Rolling Meadows over the delay between results being notified individually to candidates, and collectively to ourselves. This year, it was necessary to chase for the collective results, which continue to be available in hard copy only, and which are only sent by mail.

2001 Examination

Enquiries are now starting to slowly trickle in from the UK and from further afield.

Publication of 2000 results

I have produced a proposed article along the lines of previous years which provides some statistical analysis, a list of London Chapter passers, and guidance on applying for, and maintaining the CISA qualification.

CISA Report October 2000

There is not a lot to report from the CISA examination standpoint this month, following the publication of the June 2000 results in September.

A revised copy of the statistical reports for the 2000 examination was released on 21 September, and although there are some differences from the original, these do not, thankfully, affect the information we have already published.

Rolling Meadows have despatched a box of "CISA Bulletins of Information" for the 2001 examination, and these are now being sent out to individuals who have expressed an interest. I will retain a small stock in the office and forward the balance to Nancy.

A colleague, who shall remain nameless, has expressed surprise at the number of job vacancies being advertised which are specifying the CISA qualification as either a mandatory or a desirable requirement. He is understandably pleased to be able to use the CISA designation in his efforts to find pastures new.
