1. President
1.1. Terms of Reference
The president is responsible for the
smooth running of the Chapter during his/her term of office,
including chairing monthly committee meetings, dealing with
correspondence with ISACA headquarters, other chapters, London
chapter members and external bodies and ensuring the work of the
chapter officers and committee is channelled towards the agreed
objectives of the chapter. To a large extent, the President is the
"public face" of the Chapter.
The President is directly elected by
the membership at the Annual General Meeting in May. There is no set
time for the number of terms a President can serve but it is
normally expected that each President will stand for two consecutive
years.
1.2. Main Objectives
To represent the Chapter at functions
and events both in the UK and abroad.
To ensure that committee meetings are
properly conducted and that every member of the committee is
afforded the opportunity to contribute to discussions .
To deal with by personal response or
delegation to the proper officer correspondence from ISACA
Headquarters, other ISACA Chapters, Chapter members, non-members and
external entities.
1.3. List of Tasks
1.3.1. Annual
To prepare and present a report at
the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting.
To chair that meeting and ensure
that it is conducted in a proper manner.
1.3.2. Monthly
To chair monthly membership
meetings, providing an introduction for guest speakers as well as
imparting chapter business to attendees.
1.3.3. Other Periodic
To write a President’s Address
for every copy of Datawatch magazine (approximately one page).
To attend Regional Presidents’
Council meetings, one "formal" and one
"informal" each year at approximately six monthly
intervals. These may be held at any Chapter location throughout
Region 9 (Europe, Middle East & Africa) but are normally on
mainland Europe.
1.3.4. Other Irregular
To attend, and chair where necessary,
other meetings set up as part of the duties of the chapter’s
officers or where so instructed by the chapter committee.

1.5. Amount of Time Required
At least two days per month,
frequently more.
1.6. Positive Aspects
Representing the Organisation and the
Chapter at conferences and meetings with other bodies as well as
representing the Chapter Committee at both internal and external
events. All of these, though they can be demanding, provide a good
deal of personal satisfaction.
Without doubt, being the leader of a
good team is always rewarding. The President with a good chapter
committee, working together to achieve common goals will (despite
having to separate combatants at times) experience a superlative
sense of achievement during his/her term of office.
1.7. Challenges
1.7.1. Current
The amount of time required can be
a problem. The President is expected to be consulted or advised of
all activity of chapter committee members, is generally given to
outside bodies as the primary contact point and will normally be
invited to chair or, at least, to attend sundry meetings, speak at
chapter-organised conferences etc.
The demands on the President’s
time are by no means confined to "working hours"; most
contacts are made in the evenings especially, due to the time
difference, calls and faxes from ISACA headquarters. This is, of
course, subject to the ability of an individual President to work
"from home" nad the demands made by "paid
employment".
1.7.2. Envisaged
The situation regarding time required
to perform the duties is unlikely to ease.
The current objectives of the committee
being to increase public, governmental and media awareness of ISACA in
general and the London Chapter in particular are likely to increase
the demands made upon the President as he/she will naturally be
identified in all press releases etc and will be expected to respond
to all contacts accordingly.
