7.  External Relations

7.1.  Terms of Reference

To raise the public profile of ISACA in general and the London Chapter in particular so as to make the Chapter the definitive source for comment on current computer audit, control and security matters.


7.2.  Main Objectives

To concentrate on external publicity, but working in conjunction with other sub-committees of the London Chapter where necessary.


7.3.  List of Tasks

Maintenance of a database of media contacts.

Developing and maintaining a standard format of media release.

Developing a comments policy - our releases should be primarily be value added comment upon items already in the news, rather than creating news themselves.

Identifying Opportunities for comment - the identifier should discuss the matter with the President, or Deputy President in order to identify the appropriate person.

Setting up and ensuring maintenance of an Opportunities Diary.

Maintaining a Chapter Information Pack - an information pack is maintained by the Chapter Administrator. The content of which is:

  • General ISACA information (from International Office);
  • London Chapter information brochure;
  • London Chapter Events Card (from Education & Training sub-committee);
  • CISA information (from CISA co-ordinator);
  • President’s welcome letter (from the President);
  • Latest issue of Datawatch (from the Editor);
  • Committee profiles;
  • Details of who to contact for further information (Administrative Assistant);
  • Midlands Chapter Events Card (from Midlands Chapter);
  • Northern Chapter Events Card (from Northern Chapter).

Maintaining and circulating guidelines for preparing a release.

Provision of a single point of contact for the media.

Inviting the media to official ISACA events.


7.4.  Contacts List

Variable.


7.5.  Amount of Time Required

The ERSC currently has three members who meet about every 2 months for a couple of hours each time. In addition there are many hours spent on co-ordination activities.

On average we are probably talking of 4 hours per month per person.


7.6.  Positive Aspects

The Chapter Information pack is now established as the main source of information for both the media and new members. It can easily be kept up-to-date and provides publicity material for not only the London Chapter, but also the other two UK chapters and ISACA generally.


7.7.  Challenges

Anticipating what will be of interest to the media.

Responding quickly to events.
